Three Stories. One Mission. Why Your Support Matters Now.

Every day at Saint Nicholas Animal Rescue, survival is only the first step. What comes after—healing, trust, and a future—is where the real work begins. These three stories show what is possible when people step forward, and why your support is urgently needed.

From Shelter-Born Puppy to Life-Changing Partner: McLane’s Story

McLane’s life began on a roadside—inside a box, alongside his mother, Sapphire, and her six puppies. The day he was born was also the day they were found abandoned. A passerby brought the fragile family to Saint Nicholas Animal Rescue (SNAR), turning a moment of near tragedy into their first chance at survival. But safety did not mean certainty. Soon after, McLane and his siblings became seriously ill. Weak and vulnerable, their survival depended on intensive care. McLane made it through.

Then a Flight Angel stepped forward.

Through our Flight Angel Program, McLane traveled to the United States, where he was first welcomed into the foster home of Felice and Chris, who gave him the stability and care he needed. He was later adopted through Humane Society Broward by Shelly—the person who would change his life, and whose life he would, in turn, change.

With Shelly, McLane’s true potential emerged. He began training as a service dog and quickly proved exceptional. Today, he supports Shelly with balance and mobility, helping her navigate daily life—curbs, stairs, public spaces, and travel. He is still young, still learning, but deeply devoted to his work and to her.

Shelly adores McLane beyond measure. He is her constant companion, her support, and her independence. A puppy once born in uncertainty is now a lifeline.

None of this would have been possible without the Flight Angel Program. Each rescue flight and pet transport costs approximately $250 USD.

Because Someone Chose to Care: Nine Puppies and a Community Response

Nine puppies were found huddled on bare ground, weak and dehydrated, with no sign of their mother. For two days, Kaya Dejean heard their cries and returned again and again, leaving food and water, hoping the mother would return. She never did.

By the time SNAR was called, the puppies would not have survived another night.

Soon after, all nine puppies found loving and caring foster homes. We received videos that told a story of transformation—tails wagging, small bodies eating, moving, and beginning to play.

We are deeply grateful to the fosters who stepped in when space at the rescue was critically limited: Nads; Margo and family; Steadford and family; Shermiah; and Dr. Saul and family. Your willingness to act gave these puppies time to heal and a chance to grow.

Foster care, however, is temporary. When these puppies are healthy and ready, we hope to send them to permanent homes in the United States through our Flight Angel Program.

Mac and the Belt Around Her Neck

The first image we received of Mac was blurry—but unmistakable. Her head was grotesquely swollen. Something was terribly wrong.

For days, we searched for her. Mac was terrified and ran whenever anyone came close. When we finally reached her, the cause became horrifyingly clear: a belt had been pulled tightly around her neck, cutting deep into her skin and restricting blood flow so severely that her head had swollen dangerously.

After we finally caught her, the belt was removed immediately. Mac underwent emergency surgery. Her recovery was long—physically and emotionally. For months, she trusted almost no one. At one point, when our director had to leave the island, Mac refused to let anyone else touch her wounds.

Then, after six months, something changed. For the first time, Mac allowed our director to touch her again. A quiet moment—but a powerful one. Trust had begun to return.

Mac is one of more than 410 animals currently in our care.

Why We Need Your Help Now

After discovering fungus in moldy rice, we lost four dogs to seizures. Since then, we can no longer feed rice and must rely entirely on dog food—which is extremely expensive on the island. The dogs in our care cannot be returned to the streets. The island is not a forgiving environment for stray dogs.

How you can help:

  • Donate to support food for over 410 animals
  • Donate to the Flight Angel Program so rescued dogs can reach permanent homes

Your support turns rescue into recovery—and survival into a future.

Support for the animals can be provided in two ways

Donations can be made directly to Saint Nicholas Animal Rescue (SNAR) in Dominica via PayPal

DONATE NOW - Your Monthly Coffee Can Save Lives

Imagine if your daily cup of coffee could transform into a lifeline for innocent animals fighting for survival.

What if we told you that for just $5 a month—the price of ONE single cup of coffee—you could become a hero in the most extraordinary rescue mission?

The Power of Your Coffee Money

Think about it: You probably spend $5 on coffee without even thinking twice. That same $5, when donated monthly to Saint Nicholas Animal Rescue, becomes a powerful weapon against animal cruelty on the island of Dominica.

Here’s the incredible math that will blow your mind:

  • 100 monthly supporters at $5 each = $500 per month = $6,000 per year
  • 200 monthly supporters at $5 each = $1,000 per month = $12,000 per year
  • 500 monthly supporters at $5 each = $2,500 per month = $30,000 per year
  • 1000 monthly supporters at $5 each = $5,000 per month = $60,000 per year

What This Means for SNAR's Mission

With just 100 people like you giving up ONE cup of coffee per month, SNAR could:

  • Provide consistent medical care for animals like little Olivia
  • Stock emergency supplies for crisis situations like the burned puppies
  • Ensure no animal is turned away due to lack of funds

With 200 supporters, we’re talking about transforming the entire rescue operation —making it possible to save twice as many lives.

With 500 supporters? We’re looking at revolutionizing animal welfare across the entire island of Dominica.

Your $5 Won’t Hurt—But It Will Heal

Let’s be honest: You won’t even notice $5 missing from your monthly budget. You spend more than that on a single coffee drink. But for SNAR, that $5 is the difference between:

  • Life and death for burned puppies
  • Hope and despair for abandoned animals
  • Success and failure for Dominica’s ONLY animal rescue

Multiply Your Impact – Share the Story

Don’t keep this incredible opportunity to yourself! Share Olivia’s story with your friends, family, and social media followers. If each person who reads this convinces just two friends to join our monthly coffee fund, we’ll reach those life-changing numbers faster than you can imagine.

DONATE NOW – Set up your $5 monthly subscription today.

Because when 100+ compassionate souls like you unite, skipping just one cup of coffee becomes a tsunami of hope that will make SNAR’s life-saving work not just possible, but unstoppable.
